Bergenfield August 2011 Summary

August 2011 was the wettest month I ever experienced ( records begin in 1983 ) here in Bergenfield. The total of 16.17″ ( 410.7mm ) shattered
the previous mark of 14.59″ ( 370.6mm ) set in October of 2005. New daily rainfall records were set on 4 days. Tropical storm Irene struck on
the 27th and the 28th leaving 5.53″ ( 140.5mm ) of precipitation in its wake. The ground was already saturated from previous rainfall events
during the month and as a result there was widespread flooding. The nearby Hackensack River topped its banks and spilled water into riverside
communities. The hurricane force winds that were predicted never materialized as the storm weaken before striking our region. However, power
was lost to millions of home owners in the metro area.

Take it easy,
