Our speaker will be Eli Goldberg. Eli will talk about weather forecasting. His main operational time was at the Arctic Weather Center, so he thought maybe a few minutes just describing the forecast process they went through back then, with the area they covered and a couple of oddities or peculiarities of the arctic clients (or consumers or whatever you would call them.)
After that, most of his time was spent in R&D working on ‘forecast research’ and there was one fun project that he was involved in that is really off the beaten track. It involves computer graphics/animation mixed with artificial intelligence techniques to help automate and customize the forecast product. That’s what brought him to the US and it’s still alive and in use in both government and in the private sector. He will describe it and illustrate how it’s used.
