Bergenfield December 2013 Summary

Hi,

December saw temperatures that were close to normal here in Bergenfield,
New Jersey. U.S.A.

I recorded an average temperature of 35.9F ( 2.2C ), 0.1F above the long-term mean. 
The lowest temperature of 18F ( -7.8C ) was measured on Christmas day. A maximum temperature of 69F ( 16.7C ) was recorded on the 22nd. 

This month saw 23 days with a minimum temperature at or below freezing. Very warm air was advected into the region from the 21st – 23rd and record-breaking temperatures rose into the 60’sF. This relatively brief warm spell drove average temperatures for the month to slightly above normal levels.
 
The total precipitation of 3.99″ ( 101.3mm ) was exactly normal. The greatest daily rainfall 0.98″ ( 24.9mm ) occurred on the 29th. A wintry storm on the 14th deposited 4.5″ ( 5.1cm ) of snow. 
We have a 12 month rainfall deficit of 9.70″. If this trend continues talk of a drought might begin. 

Five daily records were broken. The maximum temperature of 69F ( 20.6C ) on the 22nd broke the old record. The rainfall of 0.98″ ( 24.9mm ) on the 29th established a new mark. In addition, the snow cover of 4.0″( 10cm ) from the 16th through the 18th broke previous records.
